Your images stay on your Mac.

Skittish privacy policy · Updated 6 October 2026

Images, annotations, and notes

Skittish processes images on your Mac. We do not upload your images, filenames, file paths, annotation text, canvas notes, or clipboard contents. Saving writes a PNG and an optional text note to the export folder you choose. Copying writes to your Mac’s clipboard; the app you paste into handles that content under its own policy.

Optional usage and performance analytics

Sharing is off until you choose Share. If enabled, Skittish sends tool use, annotation types, built-in colour and style choices, changes between those options, and counts describing annotations in successfully saved or copied work. Custom or unrecognised options are grouped into an “other” category instead of sending arbitrary values. Reports also include image dimensions, annotation counts, save and copy actions, controlled error categories, performance timings, the app version/build, macOS version, and a random session identifier. We do not use accounts, persistent installation identifiers, advertising identifiers, or cross-app tracking.

These reports help Skittish’s developer understand which features are useful, which defaults people change, and how to improve reliability and speed. They describe consenting sessions and actions, not unique people or returning users. We do not upload the work itself or automatically change app defaults based on these reports.

Processing and retention

Analytics travel over an encrypted connection to Google Cloud Run and are stored in a private BigQuery dataset in Sydney, Australia. Reports are available only to the developer’s authorised Google account. Analytics partitions expire after 30 days; Google Cloud’s standard recovery and deletion processes may retain recoverable copies temporarily. Google processes this data as our infrastructure provider and maintains its own operational and security records, which can include network metadata such as IP addresses. Skittish does not add IP addresses to analytics events or use them to identify users.

Your choice

You can decline and use every feature. Change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share usage and performance data. Turning sharing off stops new collection for export, discards pending reports, and closes the connection. Reports already sent are subject to the retention period above. Events recorded locally before consent are never replayed to the service.

Local diagnostics and preferences

Skittish keeps bounded performance logs inside its Mac app container. These exclude image content, filenames, paths, and text. Your analytics choice and export-folder permission are stored locally. Local logs are not automatically uploaded. Removing local app data also removes these preferences and logs.

Contact and deletion requests

Contact hello@cjhardwick.com with privacy questions or requests. Because we do not retain an account or persistent identifier for analytics, we may be unable to isolate your past sessions from other reports. Analytics records expire automatically as described above.
